Sanguhero

SanguHero is a custom Open Journal Systems (OJS) theme for journal websites that need a modern editorial landing page, configurable branding, and polished article pages while keeping the OJS core untouched.

The theme is based on the OJS Bootstrap 3 theme structure and adds SanguHero-specific layouts, settings, and visual components for journal homepages, sidebars, article detail pages, issue pages, announcements, submissions, and footer branding.

• Styled article detail pages with abstract, keywords, references, download buttons, article metadata, citation panel, and license block.
• Footer credit settings for custom text, link text, and destination URL.
• Bootstrap 3/Bootswatch compatibility options for journals that still rely on Bootstrap-based OJS styling.

Requirements

• OJS 3.3.x
• PHP version supported by your OJS installation
• A writable OJS cache directory so LESS stylesheets can be compiled

This theme should be installed as an OJS theme plugin. Do not modify OJS core files to use it.

Installation

1. Copy the theme folder into your OJS installation:

   plugins/themes/sanguhero
   

2. Make sure the folder name is exactly sanguhero.

3. Log in as a Journal Manager or Site Administrator.

4. Open Settings > Website > Plugins.

5. Enable SanguHero Theme Plugin.

6. Open Settings > Website > Appearance and select SanguHero as the journal theme.

7. Clear OJS cache if the old stylesheet is still visible.

SanguHero adds these configurable options in the OJS appearance/theme settings:

Homepage Content

The homepage can display:

• Hero section with current issue and submission CTA buttons.
• E-ISSN, P-ISSN, publisher, current issue, and open access metadata.
• Latest announcements.
• Current issue summary.
• Latest articles.
• Sidebar navigation menu.
• OJS sidebar blocks and custom blocks.

Publisher and current issue metadata are link-aware. If the journal has a publisher URL configured, the publisher name links to that URL. The current issue metadata links to the active current issue page.
