SanguHero is a custom Open Journal Systems (OJS) theme for journal websites that need a modern editorial landing page, configurable branding, and polished article pages while keeping the OJS core untouched.
The theme is based on the OJS Bootstrap 3 theme structure and adds SanguHero-specific layouts, settings, and visual components for journal homepages, sidebars, article detail pages, issue pages, announcements, submissions, and footer branding.

Requirements
- OJS 3.3.x
- PHP version supported by your OJS installation
- A writable OJS cache directory so LESS stylesheets can be compiled
This theme should be installed as an OJS theme plugin. Do not modify OJS core files to use it.
Installation

Copy the theme folder into your OJS installation:
plugins/themes/sanguhero -
Make sure the folder name is exactly
sanguhero. -
Log in as a Journal Manager or Site Administrator.

Open Settings > Website > Plugins.

Enable SanguHero Theme Plugin.

Open Settings > Website > Appearance and select SanguHero as the journal theme.

Clear OJS cache if the old stylesheet is still visible.
Theme Settings
SanguHero adds these configurable options in the OJS appearance/theme settings:

|---|---|
| Bootstrap theme | Selects the base Bootstrap/Bootswatch style loaded before SanguHero custom styles. |
| Show hero section | Enables or disables the custom homepage hero area. |
| Hero title | Optional title displayed in the homepage hero. If empty, the journal name is used. |
| Hero subtitle | Optional custom hero subtitle. |
| Hero subtitle source | Chooses between the journal summary and custom subtitle text. |
| Hero background image URL | One or more image URLs for the hero background. Multiple URLs can be separated by new lines or commas. |
| Primary color | Main brand color used throughout the theme. |
| Footer credit text | Custom text shown in the footer credit area. |
| Footer credit link text | Link label shown in the footer credit area. |
| Footer credit link URL | Destination URL for the footer credit link. |
Homepage Content
The homepage can display:
- Hero section with current issue and submission CTA buttons.
- E-ISSN, P-ISSN, publisher, current issue, and open access metadata.
- Latest announcements.
- Current issue summary.
- Latest articles.
- Sidebar navigation menu.
- OJS sidebar blocks and custom blocks.
Publisher and current issue metadata are link-aware. If the journal has a publisher URL configured, the publisher name links to that URL. The current issue metadata links to the active current issue page.
